High Court Tosses Trump a Lifeline, Delays Legal Jeopardy

George Washington University law professor Jonathan Turley gave a big thumbs up to the Supreme Court for tossing former President Donald Trump a life raft in the choppy legal waters. The court agreed to review Trump’s claim of presidential immunity, a move that Turley labeled as a “real victory” for the former commander-in-chief.

Trump’s legal eagles had accused special counsel Jack Smith of having a “political motive” to push for a trial before the 2024 presidential elections, which clearly got under their skin. But thanks to the Supreme Court stepping in, the case won’t be rushing to the finish line just yet. Turley pointed out that the wheels of justice turn slowly, and Trump might have just bought himself some precious time to navigate through the legal maze.

The Supreme Court set a date for oral arguments in late April, right around the same time they’re diving into the legal mess stemming from the Capitol riot of January 6, 2021. Smith had previously slapped Trump with a four-count indictment related to Trump’s post-election shenanigans, which had Trump’s legal team flipping through law books feverishly.

Turley was practically doing a victory dance as he noted that Trump’s wish had been granted – the case won’t be resolved in a snap, and there’s a chance it could linger until summer. With the justices gearing up for some serious legal jousting, it looks like Trump might just have the last laugh in this legal showdown. Let the legal games begin, and may the best argument win!
