House Blocks Reckless Plan That Would Weaken U.S. Military Strategy

The House made the right call when it rejected the rushed resolution to hobble our military — a 219-212 vote showed that most Republicans understand Washington’s first duty is to keep America safe and back the commander in chief during real threats. This was not about partisanship; it was about ensuring our troops and leaders can finish the job without feeding our enemies a calendar to wait out.

Rep. Keith Self, an Army veteran, put it plainly on Newsmax: imposing an arbitrary 30-day limit on operations would be the worst kind of strategic gift to Tehran and other bad actors. Tying the president’s hands while troops are in harm’s way would signal timidity and invite escalation, not deter it.

Self also warned that this fight is not just fought over deserts and skies but could have deadly consequences on our own soil, which is exactly why Congress should not hamstring decisive action. Our military needs clear support to maintain air superiority and to systematically degrade enemy capabilities so American lives and interests are protected.

Americans saw a chilling reminder of the domestic stakes in the Austin attack, where authorities found indicators on the suspect and in his residence that are under federal terror review — including clothing bearing Iranian imagery and other troubling items. That incident, coming on the heels of strikes against Iran, shows the regime’s sympathizers or opportunists can and will seek to act here at home, and we must treat that threat seriously.

Rather than pass symbolic limitations that hamstring the executive, Congress should do its job: fund homeland security, secure our borders, and close loopholes that let dangerous people slip through. Rep. Self rightly called out the Senate to move on critical measures like DHS funding and other commonsense security bills instead of grandstanding.

To the politicians who think appeasement or an arbitrary deadline will bring peace: history and common sense disagree. Weakness invites aggression; strength, clarity, and total support for our servicemen and women deter it. The priority must be national security, not political theater.

Patriots know what’s at stake — our families, our communities, and the future of the Republic. Stand with our troops, demand that Congress secure the homeland, and reject any plan that hands our enemies a deadline to regroup and strike again.
