House GOP Prepares Bill to Curb Judge Overreach, Back Trump Agenda

House Republicans have decided enough is enough. A vote is scheduled for next week on a new bill to restrict the ability of rogue federal judges to issue nationwide injunctions that block President Trump’s agenda, which was clearly endorsed by the American electorate. This legislative move targets the pesky judges who seem to think they can override the will of the people with their liberal agendas, and House Majority Leader Steve Scalise has made it clear that this is just the beginning of their battle against judicial overreach.

The proposed bill is called the No Rogue Rulings Act, crafted by Rep. Darrell Issa from California, and passed through the Judiciary Committee earlier this month with flying colors. Scalise has taken to social media to tout the bill as a necessary step in limiting the partisan judiciary that imagines it can just toss up injunctions like confetti at a party. It’s about time the legislative branch puts the judiciary in check. After all, voters don’t cast their ballots for judges.

In the Senate, a kindred spirit appears in Sen. Josh Hawley of Missouri, who has unveiled a similar bill to rein in these out-of-control judges. The frustration is palpable among Republicans who watch as various district judges hit the pause button on executive actions put forward by the Trump administration. Many suspect that some judges are making politically motivated decisions, completely undermining lawful governance.

Donald Trump himself has not been shy about expressing his discontent with certain judges, particularly U.S. District Judge James Boasberg, who has halted deportation flights of alleged gang members. It’s safe to say Trump would like to see some judges impeached too, but House Republicans find themselves in a tight spot; many worry that they don’t have the majority needed to pursue impeachment, especially with the slim margins they currently hold.

In addition to the vote on Issa’s bill, House Speaker Mike Johnson is also launching an attack on activist judges. Social media posts indicate there will be hearings to expose these so-called “worst offenders” in the judiciary who take it upon themselves to create laws from the bench. The urgency here is tangible, demonstrating a clear intent from the Republican leadership to take back control, rather than merely wallowing in frustration.

Jim Jordan, the House Judiciary Chairman, made it clear that the time to act is now. He advocates for limiting injunctions so that they only apply to the specific cases heard in the respective jurisdictions, rather than restricting the entire country. This is a practical approach to dismantling the excessive power currently held by federal district judges who don’t seem to grasp that they shouldn’t be playing political games when their job is to interpret the law fairly.

In a captivating twist, Judge Boasberg continues to face scrutiny as he ponders whether the Trump administration willfully flouted his order regarding the deportation of Venezuelans suspected of gang affiliations. Jordan has branded Boasberg’s recent rulings as outrageous and nonsensical, insisting that the deportation orders are on firm legal ground. His calls to hold these judges accountable reflect a growing sentiment that the judiciary needs a serious reality check, lest they continue to misuse their power against a duly elected president.
