For House Republicans, this vote will be a test of their strength, as they hold a slight majority over House Democrats. In order for the measure to pass, Republican support is essential.
Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) initiated the “impeachment inquiry” back on September 12, but without a formal vote to approve the measure. This upcoming vote will determine whether the inquiry receives majority support on the House floor, and if so, it will be formally adopted. This formal status, according to Johnson, will empower the House’s inquiry to access information that has been previously blocked by the White House.

To bolster their case, the House Judiciary, Ways and Means, and Oversight Committees jointly released an interim 78-page staff report highlighting the Justice Department’s (DOJ) “deviations” in the investigation into Hunter Biden. The report accuses the Biden administration of political interference in the probe.
