Hunter Biden Faces Legal Woes Over Unpaid $1.7M to Ex-Wife Amid Other Charges

Hunter Biden, son of President Joe Biden, is in legal trouble because he owes more than $1.7 million to his ex-wife, according to documents shared with Axios. Since their divorce in 2017, Hunter has reportedly failed to pay spousal support, legal fees, and interest to his ex-wife, Kathleen Buhle. Hunter is also expected to testify in court for a gun case starting Monday and again during a tax case on Sept. 5.

Court documents have revealed that Hunter Biden breached his divorce agreement by not paying his ex-wife the agreed amount in spousal support. The agreement required him to pay Buhle $37,000 a month plus 50% of anything he made over $875,000 annually. Additionally, records show that Hunter failed to pay Buhle the annual spousal support after earning millions in 2017 and 2018. This led to a court order for him to pay over $1.1 million plus interest.

Furthermore, Hunter mostly neglected to pay his ex-wife her monthly alimony after she filed a civil suit against him in 2018, adding to his debt total. Hunter’s legal team mentioned his struggle with drug addiction as a reason for his inability to fulfill his financial obligations to his ex-wife. In addition, the court reprimanded Hunter for attempting to delay a resolution and failing to pay a court-ordered amount plus interest by a specific deadline.

Hunter Biden’s lawyers insinuated that Buhle was attempting to blackmail him by threatening to embarrass his father’s presidential campaign, which drew attention to the situation. Buhle’s lawyer stated in a court filing that Hunter owes her more than $2.9 million and expressed the emotional and financial toll this has taken on her.

Hunter Biden is also facing federal tax charges in California, in addition to the ongoing gun case, which alleges that he lied about his drug use when purchasing a firearm. These legal issues reflect negatively on the Biden family and raise concerns about Hunter Biden’s financial and legal responsibilities.
