Hunter Biden Skips House Grilling, Flaunts Contempt Threat

In a feat of defiance that would make even the most rebellious teenager proud, Hunter Biden thumbed his nose at the House Oversight Committee by refusing to show up for closed-door testimony on December 13. Instead, he waltzed into the Capitol, took the stage at a press conference set up by Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-CA), and promptly skedaddled out of there. It was a move that left many conservatives shaking their heads and muttering about the lack of respect for lawful subpoenas.

House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-KY) and House Judiciary Chairman Jim Jordan (R-OH) were quick to point out that Hunter’s brazen snub could land him in hot water. The threat of holding him in contempt of Congress loomed large, and it seemed like the House was gearing up to take decisive action. The Oversight Committee announced that it would be considering a resolution to hold Hunter in contempt, with the Judiciary Committee also gearing up for a showdown.

To add insult to injury, the announcement came just before Hunter was set to be arraigned in Los Angeles on federal tax-related charges stemming from a separate special counsel investigation into his finances. Talk about bad timing – or was it? NBC News noted that the markup for Hunter’s contempt case was scheduled to take place the day before his arraignment, but according to a “committee source,” it was all just a big coincidence. Sure, Jan.

Hunter had tried to strike a deal by offering to testify publicly, but House Republicans weren’t having any of it. Comer shut down the idea faster than you can say “Biden” and made it crystal clear that the first son wouldn’t be getting any special treatment. Letters were fired off to Hunter’s attorney, Abbe Lowell, essentially telling him, “No, you can’t sit with us.”

In a move that surprised absolutely no one, Comer hammered home the point that the President’s son wouldn’t be getting any handouts. His Twitter game was strong when he proclaimed, “The President’s son doesn’t get special treatment.” A sentiment that resonated with conservatives across the country.

This whole circus is part of a larger investigation into Hunter Biden and his alleged shenanigans, which also extends to President Joe Biden himself. Comer and Jordan have been zeroing in on the Biden family, with a letter sent to White House Counsel Edward Siskel highlighting concerns about potential obstruction of Congress and even tossing around words like “impeachable offense.” Not exactly the family portrait you’d want hanging over the fireplace.

And as if things couldn’t get any messier, House Republicans have already thrown their hats into the impeachment ring, authorizing an inquiry into President Biden on the same day Hunter was a no-show for his deposition. It’s the kind of political drama that makes you want to grab some popcorn and settle in for the show.
