Hunter Biden, Joe Biden’s son, recently pleaded guilty to tax charges. Although many people believe that he got off easy, the real scandal here is that the intelligence community has been lying to the American public. Last year, fifty-one former intelligence officials signed a letter suggesting that the New York Post’s story about Hunter Biden’s laptop was Russian disinformation. However, every word of that story was accurate, and it was the reason Hunter Biden was caught and plead guilty.
The experts who signed that letter, including James Clapper, Mike Hayden, Leon Panetta, and John Brennan, have yet to show any remorse. They purposely lied about the situation before the election. Watching yet another intelligence failure is a reminder of the flurry of failures in the intelligence community since the War on Terror era. America’s security is at risk as a result of these failures, and instead of focusing on national defense, intelligence elites are engaging in political hackery in the press.

The broader point is that we need to focus on American security first. With China setting up a spy base in Cuba, Russia hacking our companies and government agencies, and North Korea testing missiles almost every other day, it’s time for the intelligence leadership to focus on understanding and stopping these events. The missteps, lies, and half-truths are making it harder for Americans to trust the intelligence community. We don’t need their op-ed letters, just some accountability.
