In the early days of Donald Trump’s second term, the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is swinging into action, and they are bringing the heat to illegal immigrants who have a more than friendly relationship with the law. With reports indicating over 8,000 arrests of illegal aliens by the end of January, it appears ICE isn’t pulling any punches when it comes to dealing with criminal elements in the U.S.
One should never underestimate the unwavering drive of ICE agents, especially when it comes to making sure that the streets are safe. Recent operations highlighted some particularly noteworthy arrests, including a 19-year-old MS-13 gang member nabbed in Boston, alongside a cadre of other wrongdoers with charges ranging from assault to armed robbery. It’s as if they were playing a game of legal Whac-A-Mole, and the moles just keep popping up—though this time, ICE is actually hitting them.
Living in a sanctuary city? Tough luck. Despite all the virtue-signaling from mayors who prefer to turn a blind eye, ICE is undeterred. The agency is making headlines with operations in cities that cloak themselves in the false protection of sanctuary status. It’s almost funny watching local leaders scramble to justify their lack of cooperation with federal law enforcement while ICE is busy rounding up their unwanted residents. Given the degree of danger posed by individuals like a 58-year-old illegal immigrant wanted in Mexico for child rape, it’s hard to see how anyone could possibly argue against removal efforts.
Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem pointed out that the ball is in Trump’s court regarding any direct action against the sanctuary cities’ mayors. In the meantime, ICE remains relentless in its job to send off law-breaking illegal immigrants packing. The agency’s recent operations have focused on known offenders with serious criminal backgrounds, proving a strong point about keeping communities safe.

Not only are agents feeling invigorated by the new administration’s tough stance, but there’s also chatter in the corridors of ICE that many illegals are self-deporting. With self-deportation becoming a theme, it seems some criminals are realizing that the risk of getting caught is exponentially higher in a Trump-led America. Agents have noted that there’s an awareness that “the new sheriff is in town,” giving those on the run a few reasons to consider picking up and leaving.
The public can expect ICE to keep its foot on the gas pedal when it comes to enforcing immigration laws, especially under a Trump presidency focused on prioritizing public safety. With a solid commitment to removing criminal aliens, not only is the future looking brighter for lawful citizens, but it also poses a stark reminder to those who think they can bend the law without consequences.
