Eagle Pass Mayor Rolando Salinas confirmed this in a statement on Thursday, expressing his surprise and dismay. The Texas Department of Public Safety, under the direction of Governor Abbott’s Emergency Declaration, has taken control of Shelby Park in Eagle Pass. Eagle Pass has been grappling with an alarming surge in illegal border crossings, with mass crossings becoming a regular occurrence in recent months. This is a situation that simply cannot be ignored. But instead of sitting idly by and waiting for the federal government to take action, Governor Abbott has stepped up to protect the citizens of Texas.
It’s important to note that the city of Eagle Pass had no say in this decision. They were caught off guard, just like the rest of us. But Mayor Salinas is not taking this lying down. The city attorney is currently looking into the situation, ensuring that everything is being done by the book. After all, we conservatives believe in the rule of law and doing things the right way.
Governor Abbott’s office has been relentless in its efforts to secure the border and prevent illegal immigrants from entering the state. They have been using concertina wire and other barriers to fortify the border, much to the chagrin of the Biden administration. Luckily, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton is fighting back. In a filing to the Supreme Court, he argued that cutting Texas’ border wire would be a threat to public safety. And he’s absolutely right! We need to prioritize the safety and security of American citizens over the convenience of those who break our laws.
It’s clear that the Biden administration’s open border policies have invited a record-high level of illegal immigration. Mexican cartels are taking advantage of this chaos to smuggle people into our country. But Texas will not back down. Governor Abbott is deploying the Texas National Guard, DPS troopers, and more barriers to defend our border. He is utilizing every tool and strategy available to protect the people of Texas.
We applaud Governor Abbott and his administration for taking decisive action. It’s time for the federal government to wake up and realize that our border security is not a partisan issue. It’s about safeguarding our communities and upholding the law. We must hold the line and ensure that our southern border remains secure. The safety of our citizens depends on it.
