Gov. J.B. Pritzker of Illinois, a staunch defender of President Joe Biden amidst desperate calls for him to head for the exits, got busted by a hot mic, seemingly casting doubt on the Biden candidacy saga. The guy who’s been Biden’s cheerleader suddenly sounded like he’s got cold feet.

His spokesperson quickly swooped in to mop up, claiming he was talking about the presidential race’s state. But let’s be real—it’s clear Pritzker’s feeling some serious frustration over Biden, although whether he’s griping about the party’s futile maneuvering or Biden’s performance is up in the air.
When pressed about Biden and his own ambitions, Pritzker dodged with a practiced political two-step, declaring that he’s “all in for Joe Biden” and that he’ll be campaigning like a loyal foot soldier. It’s almost as if he’s reading from a script handed down from Democratic HQ, all while probably keeping an eye on the exits.
Yet, despite Pritzker’s less than enthusiastic endorsement, he’s being floated as one of the potential substitutes should Biden finally throw in the towel, though not with the fervor behind the likes of California’s Gavin Newsom or Michigan’s Gretchen Whitmer. Standing strong among the elite of the Democratic Party, thanks to heading one of their prime territories and its upcoming Democratic National Convention, Pritzker’s influence is undeniable.
His musings, if directed at Biden, mirror the cautious whispers within the Democratic ranks. A party that seems increasingly trapped in a bad relationship with a president they dutifully support in public while perhaps privately drafting their escape plans.
