Immigration Activists Push to Protect Gang Members from Deportation Under Trump-Era Authority

Immigration activists have taken to the courts, aiming to shield alleged Venezuelan gang members from being scooted out of the country under President Trump’s wartime authority. Who knew that a simple enforcement of immigration laws would result in such a circus?

The Trump administration’s invocation of the Alien Enemies Act of 1798 has proven to be a real game-changer, especially when it comes to dealing with illegal aliens with notorious gang ties like Tren de Aragua or the infamous MS-13. Although the Supreme Court has given a green light for the administration to use this aged authority to deport those suspected of being gang members, they issued a caveat: those migrants must be given their day in court to contest their deportation status. One has to wonder, what happened to the days when the law was simply enforced without so much hand-wringing?

A representative for the Justice Department has made it very clear that they will continue defending Trump’s policies! These rogue judges, trying to meddle in national security and foreign policy, will get a hefty dose of the law. The recent Supreme Court rulings certainly bolster the Justice Department’s defense, so one can only imagine how the ACLU’s fits of rage over this must be playing out.

And speaking of the ACLU, their legal eagle, Lee Gelernt, has had a field day pitching a fit about the ruling. He insists that the Court didn’t exactly hand the administration a win and that the government can’t just shuffle people off without giving them a chance to dispute their expulsion. This sentiment reeks of the classic liberal need to overcomplicate matters. All this legal wrangling only serves to create hurdles rather than expedite the removal of those who shouldn’t be here in the first place.

It’s peculiar how the ACLU and their buddies are so concerned with the “due process” rights of those deemed “enemies” under the Alien Enemies Act. If there’s evidence of gang affiliations and criminal behavior, perhaps there shouldn’t be much of a debate. Yet, now it means that the government will have to explain its decisions to a judge, which sounds like another opportunity for the left to argue about mere semantics instead of focusing on public safety. At this rate, ice cream trucks might get barred from playing music because it’s too politically incorrect.
