IRS Whistleblowers Slam Hunter Biden Investigation as DOJ Farce

The final report from special counsel David Weiss on the Hunter Biden investigation has drawn heavy criticism from IRS whistleblowers Gary Shapley and Joseph Ziegler. Citing a blatant lack of accountability, the whistleblowers and their attorney have dubbed Weiss’ efforts not just a disappointment, but an outright farce. Apparently, overseeing a high-profile investigation into the president’s son is an untenable position for someone with a history of involvement in the case—an idea that seems to have eluded the minds at the Department of Justice.

What’s particularly eye-rolling about Weiss’ report is its attempt to distance President Joe Biden from any wrongdoing during the whole mess. As if the president maligning the DOJ while attempting to pardon his son isn’t enough to raise eyebrows. Shapley and Ziegler’s legal team believes Weiss should never have been allowed to don the special counsel hat in the first place, arguing he was far too intertwined in the tax troubles of Hunter Biden to provide any real objectivity. One could argue that if Weiss was a boat, he’d be the Titanic—too much baggage to float above the murky waters of his own prior involvement.

As Shapley and Ziegler pointed out in their statements, the Weiss report leaves many crucial questions hanging in the air like last year’s fruitcake: unresolved and festering. They stressed that the leadership at the DOJ, FBI, and IRS should have stepped up from the beginning rather than allowing the preferential treatment that Hunter Biden enjoyed to continue unchecked. It’s almost comical how the whistleblowers have risked their careers for what should have been basic ethics on the part of federal agencies. Their lament about ongoing retaliation speaks volumes about the lengths to which people will go to protect their own.

The investigation into Hunter Biden’s tax violations has been dragging on since 2018, during which time it’s whispered that Weiss was indulging in a leisurely stroll rather than a thorough inquiry. Observers speculate that the special counsel’s apparent game of “who can wait the longest?” was a deliberate tactic designed to let the statute of limitations lapse on some serious charges. If true, that paints a rather unflattering picture of justice at a time when fairness in investigations should be the norm rather than the exception.

Even though Weiss managed to secure some convictions against Hunter Biden in 2024, the blanket pardon by Joe Biden transforms those convictions into little more than a mere footnote. The fallout for the whistleblowers, however, continues unabated as they remain in administrative limbo, with the IRS yet to rule on their claims of retaliation. It’s almost as if the only people facing consequences in this ongoing saga are the ones daring enough to speak out, while Hunter Biden dances away with immunity, leaving taxpayers scratching their heads in disbelief. This whole situation reads more like a poorly scripted political drama than a legitimate justice inquiry, and conservatives are left wondering just who the real beneficiaries of “justice” truly are.
