In a recent interview on Sunday Morning Futures, House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Jason Smith (R-MO) expressed his strong condemnation of the impeachment inquiry into Joe Biden. Smith highlighted the recently released evidence which he claims shows that President Biden was not only aware of his son Hunter Biden’s business deals, but also directly connected to them. With phone calls, meetings at the White House, and trips on Air Force Two, Smith argues that these connections are “absolutely unacceptable.”
Smith didn’t stop there. He also took aim at the Justice Department, accusing them of obstructing any leads that would expose the president’s involvement. When host Maria Bartiromo expressed concerns about the impeachment process, Smith dismissed them, stating that the focus should be on gathering facts. He mentioned the subpoenas that were issued for the bank records of Hunter Biden and James Biden, as well as the requests for Biden officials to testify before Congress. According to Smith, these answers are necessary before any further action can be taken.
During the interview, Smith also touched on other important topics. He criticized the House Democrat who pulled the fire alarm during a vote, praised Congress for keeping the government funded, and dismissed Rep. Matt Gaetz’s threat to vacate Rep. Kevin McCarthy’s (R-CA) speakership as “unacceptable.” Smith argued that Gaetz’s motion to vacate would only slow down the process of passing funding bills and potentially empower the Democrats.
In his characteristic straightforward and no-nonsense style, Smith made it clear that he believes the impeachment inquiry is baseless and that Democrats are trying to undermine the Republican party. His strong defense of President Biden and the Republican agenda highlights the partisan divide in Washington and the heated rhetoric surrounding the impeachment process.
