Joe Scarborough Dares to Label MAGA a ‘Cult’ over Unwavering Trump Support!

In a recent segment on MSNBC’s Morning Joe, commentator Joe Scarborough brought up an interesting question: Is the “Make America Great Again” (MAGA) movement a cult? Scarborough’s inquiry comes on the heels of a poll that reveals a striking level of trust in former President Donald Trump among his supporters.

According to the poll, a whopping 71% of respondents trust what Trump says, placing him ahead of their own friends and family (63%), conservative media figures (56%), and religious leaders (42%). Scarborough’s co-host and wife, Mika Brzezinski, expressed sympathy for those she believes are part of a cult, to which Scarborough responded by acknowledging the fierce loyalty Trump’s supporters have for him.

Now, Scarborough doesn’t claim to have all the answers, stating, “We’re just not qualified to make that assessment.” He acknowledges that experts in cult studies might be the ones to analyze these numbers and draw conclusions. However, Scarborough did venture to look up the definition of a cult online, noting that cult leaders are typically dynamic, charismatic, and convincing in their pursuit of power. He also pointed out that cult leaders require strict adherence to their teachings and doctrines – something that doesn’t quite align with Trump’s “Follow me blindly” approach.

In Scarborough’s opinion, it is twisted that people in America follow a political leader to such a degree. Why, he wonders, do people proudly display flags of a politician? He suggests that this blind loyalty is nothing to be proud of.

The poll also revealed that Trump has a commanding lead of 62% among likely Republican primary voters, with Governor Ron DeSantis trailing far behind at only 16%. This poll result could be the reason Trump has chosen not to participate in the first Republican debate, opting instead for some form of counterprogramming, potentially featuring a one-on-one conversation with Tucker Carlson.

As always, it’s important to approach topics like these with an open mind and a critical eye. However, Scarborough’s musings offer a thought-provoking take on the strong bond between Trump and his supporters.
