Jon Stewart, that late-night darling of liberal America, has surprisingly managed to mumble through some moments of clarity during his second tour on “The Daily Show.” While the man often wanders through a political fog thick enough to make Washington D.C. look crystal clear, he’s recently stumbled upon the idea that Joe Biden might not be the sharpest tool in the shed. His lengthy tirade about Biden’s mental gymnastics after the June 27 debate may have been late to the party, but at least Stewart wasn’t playing Mr. Nice Guy with the Democratic nominee like most other mainstream media outlets. It’s amusing to note that the leftist comedian suddenly realizes Biden’s cognitive decline after it has already been a punchline for years.
Biden’s current whereabouts? Let’s call it a two-for-one deal: his mind has checked out, and so has his place atop the Democratic ticket. Currently leaving air holes behind the Resolute Desk, the actual decision-making seems to be happening elsewhere—likely by the same bubble people who were navigating him through the debate inferno. There’s no doubt his signature has become a childlike scrawl, perhaps even in trendy colors like periwinkle, giving a nod to his fading grandeur.

In an unexpected twist, Stewart hasn’t transformed into a full-fledged Kamala Harris fan overnight—though one can only imagine the mental gymnastics involved if he did. It appears he isn’t ready to don the pom-poms for the Democratic National Convention of 2024 either. If his recent critiques are any indication, the love-fest that might be anticipated among liberal circles wasn’t quite what he delivered, particularly when critiquing the likes of former President Bill Clinton.
Stewart took aim at the glaring hypocrisy exhibited at the DNC where Sen. Bernie Sanders delivered a boisterous rant against billionaires, only to be followed by billionaire Gov. J.B. Pritzker, whose self-celebration was nothing short of cringeworthy. It’s one thing for millionaires to whine about wealth inequality when they’re sitting on a mountain of cash—it’s quite another for them to face the everyday consequences of their own contradictions. Stewart’s observations didn’t stop there; he shone a light on the band of speakers gathered, including Hillary Clinton and Sen. Amy Klobuchar, all whipping out their Ivy League diplomas while mockingly criticizing people who went to Yale (yes, the irony of that discussion wasn’t lost on everyone).
His jabs crescendoed at Kamala Harris, the woman poised with a prosecutor’s badge who’s somehow tasked to lead the Democratic Party. Stewart’s mockery reached its peak with an image of Bill Clinton, a man under the weight of numerous sexual assault allegations, awkwardly lurking in the background. This visual commentary was met with unlikely laughter from his typically liberal audience, suggesting that even the most die-hard Democrats might find it hard to defend Slick Willy after all these years.
The exodus of liberals seems to be a trend on the rise, with names like Robert F. Kennedy Jr. now hanging out with Trump and Chris Cuomo voicing disdain for the Democratic establishment. Kennedy pointedly criticized the DNC’s smoke and mirrors approach, while Cuomo didn’t pull any punches either, revealing the stark contrast between what local Democrats preach and the real patronage in their sky-high suites.
This shift, particularly from Stewart, holds more weight. Having molded a generation of liberals during his initial stint on “The Daily Show,” his late awakening to Bill Clinton’s questionable past is less shocking than an indictment. Two decades too late for accountability, Stewart’s realization is like a dim light bulb flickering from its base—outdated, yet somehow amusing during this age of self-accountability in the Democratic Party. If Stewart manages to stay relevant long enough, perhaps by 2036 he might finally get around to cracking jokes about all the “trustworthy” claims made by over-promising politicians. In the meantime, it’s fun to watch the Democrats engage in their version of a cannibalistic roast.
