Jon Stewart, the comedian and political commentator, made his return as host of “The Daily Show” and couldn’t help but throw some shade at President Joe Biden. In a somewhat surprising move, Stewart questioned Biden’s energy levels and whether he was truly in control of his administration. He pointed out that while many members of the Biden team, like Vice President Kamala Harris and Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas, were being praised for their vigor and leadership, there seemed to be a lack of evidence when it came to the president himself.
“Now, did anyone bother to film that?” Stewart quipped. “Because if you’re telling us that behind closed doors, Biden is sharp, full of energy, and completely on top of things, you should probably have some footage to back that up. Instead, all we have is a TikTok video of him talking about chocolate-chip cookies. I mean, come on!”
Stewart didn’t hold back in expressing his opinion on the importance of having a strong leader, especially in uncertain times. He compared the stakes of the election to a proverbial invasion of barbarians and argued that in such situations, we need a leader like Conan, not someone simply known for their love of chocolate-chip cookies.
While Stewart did acknowledge that Biden may have “lost a step,” he quickly shifted gears to criticize former President Donald Trump. Stewart described Trump as an “old man” who also requires a “wellness check.” It’s clear that Stewart sees age concerns surrounding political leaders as a non-partisan issue.
Interestingly, the article also touches on Special Counsel Robert Hur’s investigation into Biden’s handling of classified documents. Hur decided not to pursue criminal charges against the president, citing Biden’s potential defense as a sympathetic, well-meaning elderly man with a poor memory. This raises questions about whether Biden’s age and mental state are becoming a liability, even in his handling of sensitive information.
All in all, Jon Stewart’s return to “The Daily Show” served as a reminder that age concerns surrounding President Biden are not just right-wing talking points. Even those on the left are starting to question whether Biden is truly up for the job. As conservatives, we must remain vigilant and continue to hold our leaders accountable, regardless of their political affiliation. We need leaders who can handle the pressures and challenges of the presidency, not leaders who may need constant reminders about their favorite cookies.
