Every day, Democrats and their pals in the establishment media find new and creative ways to spread misinformation, and Judy Woodruff of PBS is the latest to advance that agenda. During her network’s coverage of the Democratic National Convention, she gathered up a heap of unsubstantiated claims and casually tossed them at former President Donald Trump, making it sound as if he were somehow manipulating Middle Eastern conflicts to boost Kamala Harris’s political prospects. Just when one might think it couldn’t get more absurd, Woodruff’s subsequent attempts at backpedaling proved she was merely digging a deeper hole.
Woodruff’s original claim suggested that Trump was pressuring Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to halt a cease-fire in the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict, all because it would have supposedly helped Kamala Harris’s chances in 2024. The notion that a former president would jeopardize lives abroad for a little political gain at home? That’s an extraordinary leap, even for the establishment media. It’s almost as if they believe the public is completely void of critical thinking skills. Meanwhile, the rest of America scratches its head, wondering how a seasoned journalist could misconstrue such a serious situation.

However, when the backlash inevitably rolled in, Woodruff took to social media, issuing an “apology” that somehow managed to be less convincing than a magician’s last trick. She claimed she had repeated the unverified reports of Trump and Netanyahu with no basis in her own reporting. Instead, she explained, it was all just “reports she had read” from Axios and Reuters. Ironically, both those outlets later reported that this imagined phone call never happened, and Woodruff had conveniently neglected to catch that update before going live. Talk about missing the memo!
Adding to the comedy of errors, a Twitter user known as “Mel”—a name that might evoke visions of a friendly TV character but is surprisingly scathing—pointed out three glaring flukes in Woodruff’s half-hearted apology. Notably, neither Axios nor Reuters had claimed that Trump’s alleged call had any nefarious purpose, nor had they even claimed the call occurred at all. But facts are just trifling matters to those in the liberal media bubble. They provide slanted takes to a public eager to consume the latest anti-Trump narrative while ignoring their own failed good deeds.
Desperate to extricate herself from this debacle, Woodruff seemed unfazed by the damage her claims could cause. In a climate where the liberal media is scrutinized for anything remotely resembling truth, one has to wonder how she thought she could wade through this muck unscathed. The establishment’s penchant for damaging narratives about Trump isn’t new, but this incident illustrates just how far they are willing to go when fabricating their tales. It’s almost impressive, in an absolutely absurd kind of way.
In the end, but for the noble guardians of journalistic integrity who point out inconvenient facts as “alternative truths,” one can imagine that this fresh smear campaign would have gone unnoticed. With the election looming and tensions rising overseas, those who still cling to hope about liberal media honesty will inevitably be disappointed. As the saying goes, it’s hard to convince someone of the truth when their livelihood depends on believing lies. It’s no surprise Woodruff’s audience hungers for more of her spicy takes—after all, sensationalism sells better than the truth, which appears to be a well-known secret among those who thrive in the fever swamp of the establishment media.
