The latest chatter from the left surrounding the upcoming political debates has taken an interesting turn, with Vice President Kamala Harris publicly calling for another showdown with former President Donald Trump. According to Marc Lotter, once a key communications strategist for Trump’s 2020 campaign, there’s a very good reason for Trump to pass on Harris’s invitation: he’s winning. In an appearance on MSNBC’s “The Beat,” Lotter laid out his case, and one must wonder—has Harris finally found a way to get her name trending, or is this just a last-ditch attempt to return to relevancy?
Ari Melber, the show’s host, tried playing the role of the concerned citizen, raising questions about Trump’s reluctance to engage with Harris in a debate that she insists America deserves. Harris, with her usual flair, insists that there’s plenty left to discuss. Is someone really believing it? The Vice President is grasping at straws and hoping for a miracle—much like her entire time in office. Who needs another debate stage when you can barely score points against your own administration’s failures?
Trump offered 2 debates out of shoot… She refused… Now that her polling is tanking… All of a sudden she wants a debate?

When pressed about Trump’s refusal to debate, Melber implied that doing so would be a tradition worth upholding. It’s truly fascinating how the left clings to these so-called customs, especially when their candidate is trailing in the polls. Let’s not sugarcoat it—Harris is lagging behind, with numbers reminiscent of Hillary Clinton’s mediocre run in 2016. If a seasoned candidate like Trump is dominating the polls, why on Earth would he let Harris have a second swing? It’s a classic case of letting the kid on the playground steal your lunch money over the promise of a fair fight.
Lotter highlighted that Harris is trailing Biden’s past polling numbers by about five points—what a kick in the pants for a Vice President who was supposed to be a fresh face! Not to mention, she’s finding herself not only behind her own party’s frontrunner but in a worse position than Clinton was at this stage of the race. Those who have been following this spectacle can clearly see that the road to the debate stage is paved with desperation. For Trump, this is a no-brainer; marching to the debate stage would mean giving Harris credibility she simply doesn’t have.
In a moment of clarity, Lotter summed it up nicely: Trump doesn’t need another debate to prove his worthiness; he’s already standing at the top of the pile. Instead of feeding into Harris’s demand for a “fair fight,” he can simply sit back, enjoy the view, and let the chips fall where they may. If history is any indicator, the Democrats are better off calling it quits before they trip on their own narratives once again. After all, in the world of politics, it’s always better to stay ahead than take unnecessary risks with someone who’s just trying to catch up.
