It appears Vice President Kamala Harris is sticking to her guns, or rather, her misguided proposals, when it comes to decriminalizing fentanyl and supporting taxpayer-funded “gender affirming” surgeries for illegal aliens. Michael Tyler, a spokesperson for the vice president, refused to backtrack on her controversial support during a recent interview, proving once again that when it comes to progressive liberalism, accountability is about as rare as a unicorn.
In the lead-up to Harris’ much-anticipated debate against former President Donald Trump, Tyler found himself in a bit of a pickle when asked about a CNN report revealing Harris’ past support for drastic cuts to ICE funding and the decriminalization of drug possession. Instead of providing clarity on these eyebrow-raising positions, Tyler dismissed the questions as distractions, perhaps believing that the American people are more fascinated with the latest TikTok dance than border security and taxpayer spending. One would think that governing might take precedence over playing PR hide-and-seek.

Harris’ evolving views are of particular interest, especially since she was appointed as the so-called “border czar,” a title that sounds impressive until one remembers that the border crisis under Biden-Harris has spiraled into a veritable circus. While Harris may claim her core values haven’t changed, her policies seem to be in a constant state of flux, giving rise to the question: when does a politician’s evolution become a wacky shift in moral compass?
The ACLU questionnaire, which Harris completed during the 2020 campaign, lays bare her progressive ideology. In a world where some Democrats chose to keep quiet, Harris took to the podium to endorse sweeping reductions in enforcement that would otherwise keep illegal activity in check. Rather than addressing her previous support head-on, her campaign relegated comments to a vague statement about “effective governance.” One must wonder what forms this ‘effective governance’ has taken since more chaos seems to reign from the southern border.
As Harris prepares to go toe-to-toe with Trump in the debate, the stakes are particularly high. The last debate between Trump and Biden turned into a pivotal moment that sent Biden’s campaign into a tailspin. History might be destined to repeat itself, provided Harris’s unwillingness to tackle her past missteps leads her to a world of hurt on that debate stage. It’s a spectacle that promises to illuminate just how disconnected she and her party are from what everyday Americans truly care about.
