Kamala Harris Finally Puts Policy on Paper Amidst 2024 Campaign Criticism

It seems Kamala Harris is finally ready to stop talking about feelings and vibes and start presenting some actual policy proposals. Just a mere seven weeks after hopping into the 2024 race thanks to Joe Biden’s graceful exit stage left, her campaign website has rolled out a policy page. This tardy addition, however, seems to have more to do with the desperate need to silence the critics than with providing any substantial details about her agenda.

Social media has lit up over the delay, which has had more people raising eyebrows than a bad haircut at a family reunion. The new policy page features a section dedicated to comparing Harris’s positions with “Project 2025,” a talking point that Democratic strategists are adamant about pinning on former President Donald Trump. Harris’s campaign seems to believe that shoving the former president into a smokescreen of accusations will distract from the fact that she isn’t really saying much at all.

The campaign aims to portray Trump as a “convicted criminal” who cares primarily about himself, which is pretty rich coming from people who would have you believe that the government should fix all of society’s ills while ignoring the fine print on threats against personal freedom. Harris’s proposal brings the heat, claiming Trump has neglected gun violence solutions and border issues. Apparently, reaching across the aisle to establish bipartisan solutions is so last season for Democrats.

Harris’s proposals touch on issues such as LGBTQ rights, but curiously, they manage to overlook the hot potato of transgender ideology, especially concerning minors. To some, this could signal either a strategic move to avoid backlash from the more radical sections of her party or perhaps an acknowledgment that actual policy requires more than just a catchy slogan.

On the international front, the Harris campaign declares her unwavering commitment to Israel’s right to exist and defends its self-determination in the Middle East. How comforting to know that she intends to work toward peace in Gaza while simultaneously ensuring Israel can handle its security on its own terms. But given her track record, one has to wonder if this is more of a press-release-friendly statement than a genuine commitment.

As the 2024 election cycle heats up, voters will certainly need to sift through the verbiage of these policy posts to decipher what Kamala Harris is truly about. Until then, one might say she’s still in “pre-season” mode—where none of the real action takes place, but there’s plenty of hype to go around.
