Kamala Harris made a recent attempt to reinvigorate her struggling presidential campaign by sitting down for her second solo interview with a journalist. However, her choice of interviewer, MSNBC’s Stephanie Ruhle, suggested that the vice president was far more interested in a safe space than a serious discussion. Ruhle had previously expressed that Harris shouldn’t have to face tough questions because of the supposed existential threat posed by Donald Trump to democracy. This should have been the first hint that Harris was in for a softball approach, which would ultimately backfire.
During the interview, Harris displayed a masterclass in evasion, skillfully sidestepping fundamental questions while relying on a barrage of vague, rehearsed talking points. Critics noted that the interview was less about clear answers and more akin to promotional fluff that left viewers scratching their heads. Scott Jennings from CNN took particular issue with Harris’s lack of substance, labeling the day as a monumental misstep for her campaign. According to Jennings, it was puzzling how Harris differentiated between the billionaires she associates with, labeling some as good and others as the enemy, a mixture of rhetoric that left many bewildered.

This interview couldn’t have come at a worse time for the vice president, especially with President Biden publicly boasting about handing her broad domestic policy responsibilities. Despite the relentless support from the mainstream media, Jennings’s candid assessment of Harris’s interview highlights the growing disbelief among voters. As her campaign struggles become more apparent, it raises the question of how anyone could seriously consider her a viable candidate. She is seemingly a product of the far-left machine, manufactured with little in the way of authenticity or practical ideas, sending a shiver down the spine of traditional voters about what her administration could entail if she were to succeed in the race. Harris’s lackluster interview serves as yet another reminder that when it comes to serious leadership, this vice president is all show and no go.
