Kamala Harris recently managed to go viral yet again, but this time it wasn’t for a powerful policy speech or groundbreaking legislation. Instead, a call to her grassroots supporters, shared on the Democrats’ official X account, left many viewers scratching their heads and asking if she had enjoyed a little too much holiday cheer. With an air of detachment, Harris told her audience to never let anyone take their power away, completely oblivious to the fact that her own party appears ready to toss her aside after a dismal electoral performance.
Before addressing her loyal supporters, Harris had a rather illuminating conversation with the Democratic National Committee’s finance committee and over 400 donors. Unfortunately for Harris, the stark reality of her party’s failures was on full display, and one of the donors expressed sheer disbelief at the lack of accountability within the leadership. In the aftermath of spending a staggering $2 billion only to lose seven crucial swing states, self-congratulation seemed the main agenda as they sang praises of Harris as a “visionary leader.” Of course, the term “visionary” took on new meaning once it was revealed that their vision was clearly a one-way ticket to political oblivion.

In a moment that could only be described as tone-deaf, Harris apparently decided it was a good time to share her Thanksgiving recipe during the donor call. While constituents face real challenges and donors ponder future contributions, discussing cranberry sauce recipes appears to be the Democrats’ answer to their woes. It was as if nothing significant had happened—like they had just lost a major political battle and not a small fortune. Who wouldn’t want to hear about stuffing instead of strategy when their financial future may be at stake?
Notably, the DNC is undergoing massive staff cuts, leaving many losing their jobs without answers or a clear path forward. Yet amid layoffs and looming failure, here was the party leadership, engaged in a celebratory back patting session instead of a serious discussion about their colossal missteps. Instead of dissecting their failures and developing a plan of action, they appeared more interested in maintaining a facade of success, even as their ship takes on water.
Harris’s grassroots call, intended to rally support, only showcased the prevailing issue in Democratic circles: insufficient self-awareness and overabundant self-promotion. With a speech peppered with platitudes and superficial admiration, Harris’s attempt to connect came off as disingenuous. Thanking a Pennsylvania organizer with a laughable smile that practically screamed “fake” only underscored the disconnect between what the party is selling and what Americans actually need. The grandiosity of claiming record fundraising while leaving voters behind serves as a cruel reminder of Harris’s misguided priorities.
The sheer absurdity of laughing through a political crisis solidifies the notion that the Democrats have lost touch with reality. Instead of a plan to rise like a phoenix from the ashes of defeat, they seem to prefer indulging in feel-good rhetoric about their alleged accomplishments. Sharp lessons learned from failed campaigns appear to be buried under layers of self-satisfaction, leaving voters wondering if there’s any real leadership left in the Democratic Party, or if it’s just one long series of empty platitudes under an ever-thinning veil of unity.
