Vice President Kamala Harris recently took a swing at former President Donald Trump, alleging he would turn the Department of Justice into his very own political hit squad if he had the chance to run the country again. Apparently, Harris has a flair for drama, likening Trump’s hypothetical presidency to something out of a dystopian novel rather than acknowledge the actual turbulent realities of the current administration.
While the Vice President implies that Trump would use federal resources to go after his rivals, one might wonder if she’s projecting a little—seeing as the Biden administration hasn’t shied away from using government power to swing at political opponents. It seems that the Democrats have found a seamless way to distract from their own questionable tactics by creating a villain in Trump. Who could forget the infamous tales of various Biden associates rifling through classified documents while lecturing others about accountability? The hypocrisy is as thick as cream cheese frosting on a gluten-free cake.

Harris seems to think that scaring voters with images of authoritarian rule is a winning strategy, but over half the country might be more concerned about rising inflation than who is or isn’t using the DOJ as a political weapon. Forget weaponization; many Americans just want to know why the cost of groceries has gone through the roof and why the average family is tightening its proverbial belt while politicians play scary movie roles in front of the cameras.
To further paint Trump as the boogeyman of politics, the Vice President neglects to mention that the current administration has had its fair share of questionable actions, like the mishandling of classified material and ongoing investigations into various political figures. This ongoing balancing act of accusations, where the ruling party tells voters to look over there while their own house is on fire, is about as transparent as a brick wall.
It’s quite a spectacle to witness officials from a party that has turned the Office of the Presidency into a contact sport accuse someone else of playing dirty. When one political party captures the ring of power, and anyone with a differing opinion suddenly becomes an enemy—and not just an adversary—it raises questions about who the real threat to democracy might be. Harris’s comments serve as yet another opportunity for voters to sit back and reflect on the irony of this game, laughing all the way to the voting booth next November.
