Kamala’s “Equity” Push: Federal Power Grab Threatens Personal Freedom

Vice President Kamala Harris is pushing for sweeping new federal powers under the guise of achieving “equity.” It seems that in her so-called Opportunity Economy, the only opportunity Americans can expect is to be further subjugated under the iron grip of Washington bureaucracy. According to Harris, the federal government knows best — and by best, she means best at controlling every aspect of citizens’ lives.

In her vision, equity means leveling the playing field, but it appears that she’s more interested in leveling the playing field by taking a bulldozer to it. The idea that the federal government should have the authority to dictate economic opportunities and outcomes to every American sounds more like a recipe for dependency rather than empowerment. Individuals might find it hard to muster the energy to pursue their dreams when Uncle Sam is holding their hand, or rather, their wallet.

Interestingly, Harris’s strategy seems to rest on the assumption that the government can efficiently manage prosperity for the masses. Just take a gander at the track record of federal programs over the years. From healthcare to housing, history shows that when the government steps in, the results often are more snags than success stories. The Opportunity Economy’s promise resembles a broken record where the same tired tune is played, yet no one seems to learn from the past.

The push for these new powers raises eyebrows, especially in a country that prides itself on individual liberties and personal responsibility. Under the guise of equity, the real aim appears to be expanding the bureaucratic empire at the expense of the freedom and choices that made America great. Citizens might soon be looking to D.C. for permission to pursue their careers, start businesses, or simply make choices about their lives, effectively shuffling away the entrepreneurial spirit that fueled the nation’s economy.

As Harris continues her quest for federal control, one must wonder if anyone remembers the principles upon which this country was founded. Most Americans didn’t sign up for an Opportunity Economy where their aspirations would be dictated by a distant government, but it seems that’s what the Vice President has in store. With each new proposal, the clamps of federal oversight tighten, and it becomes clearer that the only “equity” that is being achieved is the equity of power—favoring the bureaucrats of Washington over everyday citizens.
