The U.S. Department of Justice’s recent repeal of the Biden-era “zero tolerance” policy for firearm dealers marks a significant victory for Second Amendment advocates and a step toward restoring fairness in gun regulations. This controversial policy, introduced in 2021, mandated the automatic revocation of Federal Firearms Licenses (FFLs) for dealers who committed even minor infractions, such as clerical errors. The rollback, announced on April 7, reflects a broader effort by the Trump administration to protect lawful gun ownership and reduce regulatory overreach.
Under the previous policy, gun dealers faced severe penalties for unintentional mistakes, creating an atmosphere of fear and uncertainty within the firearms industry. Many small business owners struggled to navigate the stringent rules, knowing that even minor paperwork errors could result in losing their livelihoods. Attorney General Pam Bondi, along with Acting ATF Director Kash Patel, emphasized that the repeal aims to eliminate these unfair practices while maintaining accountability for serious violations.
