Kemp Revs Up Opposition to Biden’s EV Crusade!

In a recent gathering of governors, Georgia’s top honcho, Gov. Brian Kemp (R-GA), gave the ol’ thumbs down to the Biden administration’s big push for more electric cars. Kemp and five other governors got together for a chat about how state governments fit into a go-go Washington. The gov argued that Biden’s wanna-be laws on EVs have made folks frown on the whole shebang, exposing how much work the U.S. still needs to do to support the electric car game.

Kemp laid it out plain and simple, saying that when the government starts bossing people around, it’s a real turn-off. He’s all about letting the market decide, rather than Uncle Sam calling the shots. And let’s not forget about those dollars pouring into electric car production in Georgia. Hyundai and Rivian were tossing around billions for those wheels. But Kemp wasn’t feeling the love for it. He said the cash from the Inflation Reduction Act is playing favorites, jacking up costs and not doing much for the electric car biz.

The governor added that the Feds’ plan includes tax breaks, but car makers have to get their hands on minerals and other stuff from North America. It’s a real head-scratcher for those companies, trying to keep up with all the rules just to snag a sweet deal. Kemp wasn’t hiding in the bushes on this one – he’s singing the same tune as other Republican governors who ain’t thrilled about the Biden crew’s need for speed on electric cars.

Back in January, those GOP governors gave Biden a piece of their minds. They said nobody wants to be forced into the electric car club and the Feds shouldn’t do anything that sticks it to the shoppers. The governors were all riled up about the cost, the crazy infrastructure needed, and the stuff that goes into those electric car batteries that’s got people slamming on the brakes.

Kemp didn’t hold back, saying a slowdown on Biden’s big sales idea would be just super. He wasn’t holding his breath on those tight deadlines, saying they’re just plain unrealistic. If the team over in the big White House could hit reverse on some of that, Kemp reckons it’d be a big help.
