An independent candidate named Robert F. Kennedy Jr. says he’s ready to join the upcoming presidential debates. Kennedy spoke about this on Fox News Channel’s Sunday Morning Futures. The news comes after President Joe Biden agreed to debate Donald Trump, even though Biden had been avoiding debates.
Kennedy believes he has met all the requirements set by CNN to participate in the debates. He mentioned that he will be on enough state ballots to get 270 electoral votes by June 20. He also said he meets the criteria of having 15% support in national polls.
President Trump has expressed willingness to have Kennedy in the debates, but Biden’s campaign reportedly tried to keep Kennedy out. This behavior could be against election rules, according to Commission on Presidential Debates co-founder Frank Fahrenkopf.
It’s uncertain what will happen next, but it seems like Kennedy might join the debate stage. Conservatives may see Kennedy’s potential participation as disrupting the two-party system and introducing new perspectives to the debates.
