The Koch-backed Americans for Prosperity Action has decided to pull the plug on supporting Republican presidential hopeful Nikki Haley after her loss in the South Carolina GOP primary to none other than former President Donald Trump. In a move that shocked absolutely no one, the political group announced their decision to shift their focus to Senate and House races, with a well-timed email to their staff.

Emily Seidel, the CEO of Americans For Prosperity, made it crystal clear in her email that Nikki Haley still has their undying love and support, bless her heart. She even said that Haley has their “strong endorsement,” whatever that means in a world where dollars speak louder than words. But, despite their unwavering affection, the group just doesn’t see any hope for Nikki Haley to triumph in the upcoming primaries. After all, it’s not like they can just sprinkle some Koch-funded fairy dust and magically widen her path to victory.
This decision from AFP Action is a major bummer for Haley, who’s been having a pretty rough winter, not gonna lie. She hasn’t been able to clinch a single primary against Trump and, let’s face it, she’s likely going to kiss this race goodbye and turn in her “former presidential hopeful” badge. Tough break, Nikki.
Now, while AFP Action may be waving goodbye to Haley’s campaign, they’re definitely not saying “adios” to their fears about what a Trump candidacy could mean for the GOP come November. In her email, Seidel warned of the grim outlook for the Republican party if they continue to hitch their wagon to Trump’s star. She even brought up recent elections to drive her point home, like the ones in Virginia in 2023 and the special ones in New York and Pennsylvania. Sheesh, talk about sounding the alarm!
But fear not, dear reader, because AFP Action still sees a glimmer of hope in the Senate and House races. Seidel made it clear that the Senate has always been their fave and their best shot at making a big ol’ difference. So, rest assured, the Koch-backed political powerhouse is not throwing in the towel just yet.
