This constitutes a substantial lead and should be headline news. However, what is even more intriguing is how the Washington Post responded to its own poll. In their tweets, they downplayed the poll's credibility and labeled it an "outlier." It is rather amusing to witness their dismissal of their own poll, especially when they did not adopt the same stance in 2020 when their poll indicated Biden in the lead. Evidently, they are reluctant to have people take the poll seriously when it depicts Trump outperforming Biden.
Nevertheless, the facts speak for themselves. The poll's internal data underscores the challenges facing Biden. His job approval rating is a full 19 points underwater, with his ratings for managing the economy and immigration hitting career lows. A record number of Americans report that their financial situation has worsened under his presidency. The American public is evidently dissatisfied with Biden, and the notion that Trump is looking increasingly favorable in hindsight is gaining traction.
The poll also reveals that 44% of Americans assert they have experienced a decline in their financial well-being under Biden, marking the highest figure for any president since 1986. Only 37% approve of his job performance, and even fewer endorse his handling of the economy and immigration. There is palpable discontent directed at Biden, with 45% expressing strong disapproval of his overall performance. Furthermore, 74% believe he is too old for a second term.
The message is clear: the American people remember more prosperous times under Trump and compare it to the turbulence that has marked Biden's tenure. Democrats ought to be concerned, as the polls indicate widespread dissatisfaction with Biden's performance. In the event of a government shutdown, the majority would assign blame to Biden and the Democratic Congress. It is high time for them to confront the reality that the American people are yearning for a change.
