Left Chooses Pageantry Over Policy at State of the Union Reveal

Last night’s spectacle in Washington proved once again that the modern left prefers pageantry and protest to policy and patriotism. Dozens of Democratic lawmakers skipped the actual State of the Union and instead gathered at a patchwork of counter-events — from the “People’s State of the Union” on the National Mall to a celebrity‑studded “State of the Swamp” — choosing optics over governing at a moment when Americans want results, not rallies.

The so‑called “People’s State of the Union” featured a handful of House and Senate Democrats addressing a crowd on the Mall while the real joint session inside the Capitol went on uninterrupted. This hollow theater was intentionally staged as a protest, with chants like “Abolish ICE” and a parade of grievances that made clear whose side these politicians are really on — not hardworking Americans but grievance groups and far‑left activists.

Meanwhile the “State of the Swamp” at the National Press Club brought out Hollywood types to virtue‑signal for cameras, with Robert De Niro and others trotting out lazy clichés about “defending democracy.” It’s telling that the left must import actors and stagecraft to make its case; substantive debate and respect for institutions are out of fashion, replaced by celebrity tantrums and performative outrage.

If you needed a symbol of how unserious this all was, look no further than the green frog swag and inflatable frog costumes that popped up in the crowd — a nod to anarchic Portland stunts turned into mainstream political theater. The frog fetishization is the literal mascot for a movement that would rather mock America than mend it, trading dignity for shock value and social‑media clips.

On conservative programs, Megyn Kelly and her guests ripped into the stunt‑driven counterprogramming, even name‑checking Joy Reid and others as part of the left’s chorus of denunciation and performative lamentation. Kelly’s show summarized the roll call of alternate events and media responses that night, underscoring how the mainstream left and big media coordinated a narrative of grievance instead of engaging the American people.

The American people aren’t fooled — polling and reporting show voters feel the country is not better off and are hungry for leadership that fixes problems rather than stage protests. While Democrats posture on the Mall, voters watching their gas bills, school chaos, and border failures want solutions and common‑sense priorities like security, opportunity, and respect for the rule of law.

Conservatives should call this what it is: a surrender of seriousness. Hardworking Americans deserve lawmakers who show up to do the job, not run to the nearest photo op and frog costume for attention. If the left insists on staging more clown shows, then patriots must double down on common sense, defend our institutions, and make sure the political circus doesn’t distract from delivering the results Americans actually need.
