In an exclusive interview with the Washington Examiner, Senator Tim Scott from South Carolina expressed his lack of surprise regarding the media and the Left rallying behind his opponent, Nikki Haley. Scott criticized Haley, labeling her as a “moderate” candidate, and confidently stated that a moderate candidate will not be able to beat Donald Trump.

Scott specifically addressed the recent editorial by the Post and Courier’s editorial board, which called on Republican candidates to make way for Haley, as she is seen as the only candidate capable of defeating Trump. Scott shrugged off the support, remarking that it is typical for moderates to rally behind Haley. He further added that while the media and the Left may be supportive of her, he is uncertain if that is beneficial for the party.
In regard to Haley’s positions, Scott emphasized her fluctuation towards more moderate stances. He highlighted her initial support for accepting Palestinian refugees but noted that she changed her position to align with the party’s position. Scott also criticized her views on abortion, claiming that she tries to maintain a moderate stance by being pro-life in South Carolina but pro-choice for the rest of the country.
Scott reinforced his commitment to signing a federal limitation on abortion if he were to be elected as president. He dismissed the notion that Republicans should rally behind Haley, stating that voters do not believe she is the best candidate to challenge Trump in the primary. According to Scott, a moderate candidate will not be successful in taking on Trump.
