Liberal Meltdown: Trump Dominates Debate, Supreme Court Smacks Down January 6 Charges

This week has been an absolute train wreck for the liberal left. Donald Trump obliterated Joe Biden during their first debate, leaving the Democratic Party scrambling to regain its composure. Like clockwork, the meltdown ensued, with liberal pundits scurrying to patch up their narrative with duct tape and wishful thinking. Adding insult to injury, the Supreme Court delivered a knockout punch to the January 6 witch hunt via the Fischer decision. By dismantling the so-called “obstruction of an official proceeding” statute, the Court has essentially pulled the rug out from under one of the core charges that Special Counsel Jack Smith was so keen on using against Trump. Legal scholars everywhere can practically hear the wings tearing off Smith’s hollow case.

Attention shifted to the Supreme Court’s decision on presidential immunity, where the Justices, in a 6-3 ruling, cited Article II of the U.S. Constitution to proclaim that a sitting president is beyond the reach of criminal prosecution for any official acts. The weighty majority opinion, penned by Chief Justice John Roberts and backed by Justices Gorsuch, Kavanaugh, Barrett, Thomas, and Alito, cemented this enduring principle into the annals of American jurisprudence. Predictably, the usual dissidents—Kagan, Jackson, and Sotomayor—were aghast, with the latter diving headfirst into loony conspiracy theories.

Sotomayor’s dissent is essentially a guided tour through liberal paranoia, going so far as to suggest that this ruling gives presidents the green light to order political assassinations. In a move that could only be described as peak satire, some leftists began to ponder out loud whether Biden might just heed that hypothetical lunacy against Trump. The chasm between a rational ruling and a hysterical dissent seems too wide for many liberals to understand, let alone bridge.

The liberal echo chamber, still smarting from the debate debacle, tried its best to amplify this incoherent dissent. January 6th “survivors,” as they call themselves, were naturally triggered. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez took a break from spearheading the Green New Deal to announce plans to introduce articles of impeachment against the Supreme Court, perhaps forgetting Congress’s role doesn’t extend to randomly undoing decades of legal precedence based on personal grievances. Eric Holder, in true melodramatic fashion, declared the ruling an existential threat to democracy, as if the proverbial sky were falling.

In the meantime, the more rational minds within the liberal establishment—which at this point feels like an endangered species—tried to dial down the panic. But, let’s not kid ourselves; even a tempered take couldn’t unring the bell that’s tolled for liberal America this week. The Supreme Court’s assertion of presidential immunity brings some much-needed clarity to the role and powers of the President, cutting through the noise and returning focus to the Constitution as the ultimate rulebook.

So while the Left loses its collective mind, America can take solace in a return to foundational principles. It’s been a banner week for the Constitution and the rule of law. The fallout from this should keep the pundit class busy for a while, so grab some popcorn and enjoy the show.
