Liberal angst knows no bounds, especially when it comes to anything related to Donald Trump. The folks on the left are once again threatening to “cancel” TIME Magazine after the illustrious publication dared to name Trump its 2024 “Person of the Year.” This is a title that has been conferred to various figures from diverse political backgrounds, yet for some reason, the mere mention of Trump sends certain liberal factions into a tizzy.
A popular leftist Facebook page by the name of “The Other 98%” wasted no time issuing a cancelation rallying cry, even providing the magazine’s customer service number for those who might want to join the chorus of disgruntled subscribers. With an impressive outcry that racked up nearly 30,000 likes, the fervor for the cancellation of TIME is palpable, driven by the belief that anyone who supports Trump must be eradicated from polite society.
One particularly zealous individual claimed to have nixed their 20-year subscription out of sheer protest, proudly boasting that the act felt “so good.” Reactionary sentiments like this seem to echo the liberal playbook: when in doubt or faced with criticism, just cancel it out. But it’s hard not to chuckle at the self-importance of those who feel that their individual cancelation decisions will somehow shake the very foundation of a magazine that has existed for almost a century.

With a flair for irony, many of the critics taking to social media lamented that the title should have gone to someone else entirely—like a former student accused of a chilling crime. One can only imagine how many times these same individuals excuse far more dastardly figures from history awarded the same designation, including infamous dictators like Adolf Hitler and Joseph Stalin. Yet, the thought that the 45th President receives recognition is enough to trigger spontaneous subscription cancellations and fervent demands for a social media blackout.
In a delightful twist of fate, Trump reveled in the recognition with his signature flair. He celebrated by ringing in a bullish day on Wall Street at the New York Stock Exchange, a fine illustration of his enduring influence over the American economy—an influence that leftists would likely prefer to ignore. Amidst the all-too-familiar cries for cancellation, one wonders if these liberals are truly as invested in “wokeness” as they claim, or if it’s simply an exercise in futility as they attempt to silence what they don’t agree with, failing to recognize that TIME Magazine might just be enjoying the spotlight and laughing all the way to the bank.
