Lincoln Project Unravels as Leaders Pocket Millions Amid Anti-Trump Ads

The Lincoln Project, a so-called anti-Trump organization formed by a gaggle of individuals who once claimed to be conservatives, continues to unravel faster than last week’s laundry. Recent disclosures from the Federal Election Commission reveal that, in a spectacular display of self-serving virtue signaling, this group has funneled around $7 million into the pockets of its own leaders through various consulting firms packed with Project insiders. Naturally, this daring escapade in financial gymnastics comes just as they dropped a cool $4 million on ads trying to thwart Trump while boosting Kamala Harris during the 2024 election cycle.

The irony is rich, as Wade Miller from the Center for Renewing America aptly pointed out. The crew behind the Lincoln Project, which is essentially a revolving door of disgraced political strategists, is largely funded by leftist Democrats who are less passionate about conservative principles and more keen on raking in cash while attempting to dismantle the political landscape. One could easily mistake their press releases for a Black Lives Matter manifesto if one were to judge based solely on rhetoric.

In its latest campaign finance report, the Lincoln Project’s spending behavior makes it abundantly clear: it’s less about policy and more about the big payday for its leaders. Founded in 2019 by political operatives including the disgraced John Weaver, and others who probably should just hang up their hats and retire in shame, this group has become a financial vacuum, gobbling up donor dollars while returning about as much as a used car salesman returns old inventory.

Recent trends suggest that the organization is more effective at burning through cash than creating any real impact in the realm of politics. After raising a rather impressive $15.5 million this year, the Lincoln Project outdid itself by spending a whopping $16.2 million, ending the election cycle with over $630,000 in unpaid bills. Who knew being anti-Trump would be such an expensive hobby?

Furthermore, the cash got passed around like a party favor at the Lincoln Project’s version of a gala, with hefty sums allocated to companies owned by its top advisers. A quick tally reveals that $2.1 million went to Lever Communications, run by senior adviser Joe Trippi, while other entities linked to the Project pocketed hundreds of thousands under the vague umbrella of political strategy consulting, digital ads, and good old-fashioned media advice. It’s almost enough to make one feel uninspired that they might not be able to cash in like these operatives.

Even as they stumble forward, grasping for relevance like a teenager trying to get through the last couple of years of high school, the Lincoln Project maintains that their fight is far from over. They are counting on donations to keep their lights on while opposing a second term for Donald Trump. It has become painfully clear that rather than getting it together, they are merely pleased to keep the fundraising machine churning, insisting they must “stay vigilant.” One can only wonder how much longer they can keep this charade up in the face of mounting evidence that their operation is, in fact, just a thinly veiled grift.
