In surprising news, a recent survey has revealed that more Democrats than Republicans want President Joe Biden replaced as the party’s nominee just months before the upcoming election. The survey, conducted by Rasmussen Reports, found that 54% of likely Democratic voters would support Biden being replaced, citing concerns about his policies and his mental and physical health. This finding deals a blow to the Democratic Party, especially with the party’s nominating convention scheduled for mid-August, leaving little time for changes to the ticket.
Wow: Majority of Democrats, 54%, say dump Biden off the ticket
In upcoming @Rasmussen_Poll survey, just 43% of Republicans agree.
Still, there's no unity choice. Michelle O at just 21%. Most Dems say 'none' and Newsom at low 8%https://t.co/CSAcEUXXVU via @dcexaminer pic.twitter.com/hekyFKbuuZ

The survey also indicated that former First Lady Michelle Obama is the only alternative many Democrats can think of, despite her repeated statements that she will not run for president. With no compelling second choice, many Democrats feel stuck with Biden, as 38% believe it is likely he will be replaced, while 57% do not. Additionally, only 8% of Democrats see Governor Gavin Newsom as a better candidate than Biden, and Vice President Kamala Harris is considered a better choice by just 17% of Democrats.
The survey also found that 49% of Republicans and independents would approve of Biden being replaced on the ticket. Despite a significant portion of Democratic voters expressing approval for Biden’s replacement, he has secured a substantial number of delegates and is very close to winning the nomination. This situation leaves the Democratic Party with limited options for replacing Biden as their nominee. The complexity is further heightened by the fact that the last sitting president to step aside from seeking reelection was Lyndon B. Johnson in 1968, making a similar move by Biden unprecedented in modern politics.
Beyond internal party concerns, Biden is also facing protests over his policies on Israel and the economy. Despite these challenges, he remains in a close race with former President Donald Trump in many popularity polls, as Trump is the presumptive GOP nominee for the upcoming election. This survey highlights the uncertainty and concerns within the Democratic Party as they consider the possibility of replacing their nominee just months before Election Day.
