Mark Cuban, the billionaire and so-called “Shark Tank” star, has thrown his full support behind Kamala Harris in what could only be described as a classic case of a rich liberal defending indefensible policies. Despite his self-proclaimed image as a centrist, Cuban’s political leanings are more radical than a sawed-off shotgun at a fish fry. His recent attempts to back Harris have been met with ridicule and demonstrate a jagged disconnect from reality.
Earlier this year, Cuban sought to showcase his progressive credentials by promoting Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives on social media. The fallout from this virtue signaling blew up in his face like a poorly timed firework, exposing him as a classic example of leftist hypocrisy. Enter Kamala Harris, and it’s no surprise that Cuban has chosen to hitch his wagon to her train, but his efforts have been a public relations disaster worthy of a reality TV show episode gone wrong.

In a debacle that played out on CNBC’s “Squawk Box,” Cuban attempted to defend Harris amidst her unpopular stances, only to find himself fumbling under the scrutiny of co-host Joe Kernen. When Kernen pointedly asked him if the current 40-year high inflation rates might really stem from, you know, actual economic policies rather than imaginary villains like corporate price gouging, Cuban stumbled through his response like a toddler trying to explain why he threw his toy across the room. Instead of defending Harris’s approach, he inadvertently reinforced the idea that her economic plan is as empty as a campaign promise made before an election.
The real kicker came when Kernen tried to pin Cuban down on Harris’s lackluster performance in past debates. Cuban, grasping for straws, blurted out that it was easy to critique her from “different contexts,” claiming that pandemic-related circumstances made her earlier comments excusable. Kernen wasn’t having any of it, pointing out that people are clearly comparing Trump’s pre-pandemic successes against the current Biden-Harris calamity. Not one to back down from an argument, Kernen landed a mic drop moment by highlighting the sheer absurdity in Cuban’s defense: if Harris can bask in the good deeds of Biden, can she also dodge the blame for the chaos under her watch?
Cuban’s efforts to prop up Kamala Harris are as laughable as they are desperate. His attempt to sound rational in defense of her policies only highlights the absurdity of leftist economic thought. In a world where common sense seems to be in short supply, Cuban has somehow managed to bring the comedic value of the political arena to new heights—perhaps he should consider taking a long, hard look at what he’s actually promoting before appearing again on platforms meant for serious discussions. It’s tough to defend the indefensible, and Cuban is finding out the hard way that wearing his liberal heart on his sleeve doesn’t translate into common sense or sound policy backing.
