Authorities in Massachusetts initiated an investigation after discovering an overturned plane in the Merrimack River, as detailed by a recent news report. The single-engine aircraft, a Van’s Aircraft RV-6A, crashed into the river between Lawrence and North Andover, resulting in the tragic death of the pilot. Thankfully, no passengers were aboard the plane at the time of the incident, which occurred around 2:15 p.m.
First responders from the North Andover Fire Department swiftly responded to the crash site and conducted a challenging rescue operation. Deputy Chief Graham Rowe described the difficult conditions of the area, noting the steep embankments and the plane’s inverted position upon their arrival. Despite their efforts, the pilot remained inside the aircraft as it partially sank in the river.
