House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) has proposed a resolution that would quash both of the unwarranted impeachments against former President Trump. This resolution was drafted by Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) and Chairwoman Elise Stefanik (R-NY) of the House Republican Conference, and if passed, will nullify the House impeachment vote that occurred while Trump was still in the White House.

The first impeachment indictment against Trump occurred in 2019, based on Democrats’ baseless accusations of obstruction of justice and abuse of power. Lawmakers absurdly tried to remove the President from office after insinuating that he had pressurized the Ukrainian President to investigate then-candidate Joe Biden. It is vital to note that no legitimate evidence supported these allegations.
The Democrats’ second attempt to impeach Trump occurred in 2021 and was based on preposterous accusations that he incited the Capitol Hill riots on January 6th. Trump has denied these allegations, and rightfully so. Furthermore, the second impeachment had no due process, rendering it unjustifiable.
Speaking to reporters, House Speaker McCarthy claimed that neither impeachment had sufficient facts to justify removing Trump from office. The only reason Democrats were successful in collecting enough votes to impeach Trump was that they resorted to unscrupulous methods. During the first vote, it passed without any Republican support, and ten Republicans caved to Democrat pressure and voted to impeach Trump after the Capitol Hill incident.
Nonetheless, McCarthy was unwavering in his view of the impeachment proceedings. He believes that Trump’s presidency was legitimate and that attempts to discredit him were baseless. Moreover, he says that the upcoming resolution is appropriate because it will correct the House’s historical record, erasing all Articles suggesting the former President’s impeachment.
Republicans led by Greene and Stefanik are optimistic that the resolution will soon be put to a vote on the House floor. They are hoping that the repeal of the impeachment bills will restore a sense of justice and fairness to the American system of justice and politics.
