In a hilarious twist of events, the White House has called out House Speaker Kevin McCarthy for his plans to move forward with an impeachment inquiry, branding them as “baseless” and accusing him of trying to toss “red meat” to “right-wing” Republicans. It seems like the White House has a knack for throwing shade at their political opponents.
Just one day after the White House condemned Rep. Majorie Taylor Greene for refusing to vote to fund the government unless an impeachment inquiry is opened, White House spokesperson Ian Sams decided to take aim at Mr. McCarthy. Sams accused McCarthy of using the impeachment inquiry as a bargaining chip to appease the far-right Republicans. Talk about mixing politics with food—a recipe for disaster.
Sams went on to say, “If Speaker McCarthy proceeds with an impeachment simply to throw red meat to the right wing, it will prove once and for all that this is a baseless, politically motivated exercise.” Ouch! That’s quite the burn. The White House also made sure to highlight the comments of other Republican lawmakers who don’t support moving forward with impeachment. Rep. Ken Buck of Colorado and an anonymous GOP lawmaker told Fox News that McCarthy is using impeachment to distract from his issues with the appropriation bills. Who knew impeachment could become the ultimate distraction?
Sams didn’t stop there. He criticized House Republicans for wasting time and taxpayer dollars on “zero evidence” investigations into President Biden’s family’s business dealings. He called it a “wild goose chase,” and boy, does that paint quite the picture. I can just imagine House Republicans running around, chasing after geese instead of focusing on their jobs. Classic.
At first, McCarthy was hesitant to launch an impeachment inquiry, but now he’s singing a different tune. He’s increasingly signaling that it could begin later this month when the House returns from its summer recess. Looks like someone had a change of heart—or maybe it was just a change of politics.
