In a shocking revelation, it has been reported that former First Lady Michelle Obama played a pivotal role in introducing Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. However, much to everyone’s disappointment, Michelle Obama was not invited to their grand wedding. Why, you ask? Well, it seems that other political figures were not on the guest list, and poor Michelle got caught in the crossfire.
According to a source, Harry himself had declared that there would be no wedding without Michelle Obama. It’s no surprise, considering the close friendship shared by former President Barack Obama and Harry. So, it’s only natural that Michelle had a hand in bringing the lovebirds together.
One might think that with such a role in their romance, Michelle would have been a shoe-in for a wedding invitation. But alas, it wasn’t meant to be. The reason? The couple simply didn’t want to invite any national leaders to avoid having to extend the courtesy to the then-U.S. President, Donald Trump. Talk about letting politics ruin a good time!
In a statement from Kensington Palace, it was made crystal clear that political leaders, both from the UK and internationally, were not needed at the wedding. Her Majesty’s Government was even consulted on this matter, as if the British government had nothing better to do than decide who gets to attend a celebrity wedding.
Despite the snub, Michelle and Meghan have managed to forge a friendship post-wedding. However, it appears that Michelle was a bit taken aback by Meghan’s apparent disdain for the late Queen Elizabeth II. Perhaps Meghan forgot that being a Duchess comes with certain protocols and respect for the royal family is one of them. Michelle, on the other hand, tried to empathize with Meghan’s situation, drawing parallels to her own time as First Lady.
But there’s more to their friendship than just their common experiences. Both women have faced backlash for their views, and the public hasn’t always seen them in a positive light. Yet, they soldier on, maintaining a low profile and avoiding the spotlight. Michelle knows all too well the challenges that come with being in the public eye and offered some wise advice to Meghan during an interview. She encouraged her to use her platform for good, as long as it aligns with Meghan’s personal beliefs.
Now that the wedding is a thing of the past, both Michelle and Meghan are focusing on their private lives. As Michelle told Jenna Bush Hagar, public service is not for the faint of heart. It’s a bright, sharp, hot spotlight that most people wouldn’t understand. And judging by their recent actions, it seems like Michelle and Meghan are choosing to step away from the media circus and embrace a more private existence.
There will be no official UK or overseas guests at Prince Harry and Meghan’s wedding. No Theresa May, President Trump or Obamas.

In the end, it’s unfortunate that politics got in the way of Michelle Obama attending Harry and Meghan’s wedding. But we can only hope that they all find happiness in their own separate ways. After all, politics aside, love conquers all, right?
