The sky is falling; nothing matters anymore—not the midterms, not Trump, not even the Republican Party. Yet, while these doom-mongers might enjoy their crash-course in nihilism, it might be worth pausing to consider what happens when the pendulum swings leftward with nothing to stop it.
Imagine a landscape where the filibuster is ancient history, swept under the rug like yesterday’s news. The party in power decides it’s time to expand the Supreme Court and increases the number of justices. Suddenly, every ruling tilts in a direction that seems to forget half the nation exists. Voting transforms into an unlimited buffet with a side of vote-by-phone and a hint of teen spirit—now that the voting age drops to sixteen. And everyone gets an invitation, as the notion of border security blurs and a significant number of new citizens appear overnight from the shadows, invited by their newfound hosts.
But the plot thickens. Those two extra Senate seats turn into a magic trick, making Washington D.C. the 51st state and Puerto Rico the next in line. Presto! The Senate balance tips permanently, and unless you’re a fan of never-ending left-leaning policies, it starts looking like continual opposition for anyone who shudders at the thought. The Capitol’s new residents won’t mind, though, as long as their beltway somehow avoids becoming the next Mogadishu.
Meanwhile, the wagons continue circling around cultural landmarks like gender identity and education. One shot breaks out over the sports field, where debates about who plays on which team reach fever pitch. Classrooms become battlegrounds too, where some claim the curriculum resembles a propaganda factory, driving a narrative that bends to progressive ideals. Oh, and if you were planning on homeschooling, you might need to reconsider if it gets a spot on the chopping block.
Lastly, a shroud hovers over the right to free speech, threatened like an endangered species. Platforms that dared to promote diverse voices face clampdowns, as dissent becomes a risky venture. So, while the journey to the edge might appeal to some, consider what follows if the reins are permanently handed over to the opposition without a second thought. It’s a turning point, folks—a decisive moment asking for your sensible nudge of participation to keep America’s varied voices in harmony.
