Mike Johnson Calls Out Democrats for Lies on GOP Spending Plan

House Speaker Mike Johnson didn’t mince words when he went on The Record to expose what he called a Democrat-led misinformation campaign about the House GOP’s continuing resolution, calling their claims “all a lie.” Conservatives have watched for weeks as Democrats reflexively scream “cuts” at any attempt to rein in wasteful spending, and Johnson called them out publicly for doing exactly that.

The House GOP’s plan — a clean continuing resolution designed to fund the government through the end of the fiscal year in September — was filed and debated as a way to prevent perpetual short-term patches while preserving services for the American people. Republicans framed this measure as a responsible, temporary stopgap that buys time for true reforms and fiscal sanity.

Rather than negotiate in good faith, top House Democrats pushed a short-term, four-week patch meant only to kick the can and score political points, an approach that would reward obstruction rather than solve problems. Speaker Johnson was right to point out this posture: the Democrats are offering theatrics, not a path to lasting solutions.

Johnson has repeatedly insisted the GOP measure contains no poison-pill riders and makes no cuts to Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security, or veterans benefits — in fact, he noted veterans accounts were increased. That plain reading of the bill undermines the hysterical headlines that Democrats and their allied outlets keep peddling to frighten seniors and service families.

If the mainstream press refuses to challenge these false narratives, they are complicit in a cynical campaign to gin up fear and force political concessions. Johnson rightly demanded reporters call out the fabrications instead of amplifying them, because the American people deserve straight answers, not phony panic.

Conservative lawmakers and patriots should see this moment for what it is: a fight over whether Congress will finally get serious about spending, reform, and accountability, or whether we’ll keep giving in to the same old Washington games. The House GOP’s clean CR is a tactical move that preserves services now while protecting the leverage needed to pursue real, pro-growth reforms through reconciliation.

Americans who work hard and pay taxes should not be bullied by partisan fearmongering from a party that prefers political stunts to stewardship. Speaker Johnson stood up to that theater on national television, and conservatives should rally behind leaders who tell the truth, defend veterans and seniors, and insist on fiscal responsibility over drama.
