Listen up, folks! It looks like the good old state of Nebraska is about to have a showdown between some GOP heavyweights, and it’s gonna be more epic than a Wild West shootout. According to the Nebraska Examiner, the state Republican Party’s Central Committee has given the thumbs up to three challengers squaring off against GOP incumbents.

The biggest news from the meeting in Lincoln, Nebraska? They’ve given the cold shoulder to a certain senator that former President Donald Trump has labeled a “RINO.” That’s right, Sen. Pete Ricketts, a former governor and one of the sorry senators that Trump couldn’t give his stamp of approval, will be going toe-to-toe with John Glen Weaver, a retired Air Force lieutenant colonel, in the primary.
Now, Ricketts ain’t one to back down from a fight, and he’s officially declared that he’s in for the May 14 primary. But here’s the kicker – the Nebraska GOP Central Committee refused to back him up. Ouch! The drama started back in 2022 when Ricketts threw his support behind Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp, despite Trump throwing his weight behind someone else. It looks like the former president hasn’t forgotten that snub and neither have the GOP bigwigs in Nebraska.
Now, Weaver ain’t pulling punches, either. He’s making it known that he’s got no love for Kentucky Sen. Mitch McConnell, the current GOP Senate leader. Weaver’s taken to social media to promise that he ain’t gonna help keep McConnell in his job. Yikes! He’s also stirring the pot by vowing to end “forever wars” and vowing support for the House Freedom Caucus. Looks like Weaver isn’t afraid to throw some punches at the establishment, and the Nebraska GOP seems to be eating it up.
And get this – the Nebraska Examiner reported that the party faithful are fully on board with Weaver, giving him their enthusiastic endorsement. It looks like there’s a tiff between the state party and its top elected officials, with a big shift towards the populists loyal to Trump.
With all this drama and excitement, the 2024 primary in Nebraska is shaping up to be a showdown for the ages. Whether you’re backing Ricketts or rooting for Weaver, one thing’s for sure – this ain’t your grandpappy’s GOP anymore!
