Neil deGrasse Tyson, the famous astrophysicist, is facing backlash from conservatives after a video surfaced of him claiming that chromosomes alone cannot determine a person’s gender because it is a matter of choice. In an interview with sports television personality Stephen A. Smith, Tyson explained that we have the freedom to express ourselves in any way we choose, regardless of our biological makeup.

Conservatives are not buying it. Detransitioner Chloe Cole expressed her disagreement with Tyson’s argument, stating that it is wrong to confuse basic biology with cosmetics. She emphasized that gender should not be based on stereotypes and that this kind of thinking can lead to harmful consequences, such as unnecessary surgeries for young girls who don’t fit into traditional gender norms.
