Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has strongly criticized the International Criminal Court for its intention to issue arrest warrants against him, accusing the court of unfairly targeting Israel. The ICC’s announcement of plans to pursue arrest warrants against Netanyahu and Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant has sparked outrage. Additionally, the court intends to pursue arrest warrants against several Hamas officials, including the head of its military and political bureau.
Netanyahu has vehemently rejected the ICC’s accusations and defended Israel’s actions, stating that the country has increased its supply of water and provided significant amounts of food and medicine to Gaza. He has condemned the ICC’s prosecutor for what he views as an attempt to demonize Israel, comparing the situation to a hypothetical scenario involving former President George Bush and Osama bin Laden.
The Israeli prime minister has also expressed concern that the ICC’s actions are fueling antisemitism and creating false narratives about Israel’s conduct. He emphasized that Israel aims to demilitarize Gaza, establish a civilian administration separate from Hamas, and rebuild the region in a peaceful manner after addressing the threat posed by the terrorist group.
President Joe Biden has joined Netanyahu in condemning the ICC’s plans, labeling them as “outrageous” and emphasizing the lack of equivalence between Israel and Hamas. He has reassured Israel of the United States’ continued support in the face of any threats.
