Law enforcement agencies in New Mexico are speaking out about Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham’s “ridiculous” public health order that prohibits people from carrying firearms in Albuquerque and Bernalillo County. Sheriff John Allen from the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office expressed his concerns about the ban, pointing out that it goes against our Constitution. Allen, who takes his oath seriously, doesn’t want to put his deputies in a position where they could face legal conflicts or jeopardize the safety of law-abiding citizens who have the right to self-defense. He believes that any proposed solution to gun violence should carefully consider protecting our community while upholding our nation’s values.
Sheriff Allen outlined the steps his office has already been taking to combat gun crime, such as targeting felons in possession of firearms. He acknowledged that although his office may not fully align with the Governor’s order, they are committed to working collaboratively with her office and the community to find sustainable solutions to the gun violence epidemic. It’s refreshing to see a law enforcement official prioritize the rights of law-abiding citizens while still striving for public safety.
In contrast, Albuquerque Police Chief Harold Medina seems to be blindly following the Governor’s order. He announced that state law enforcement would be responsible for enforcing the ban, without raising any concerns about its constitutionality or potential impact on the community. Medina’s unquestioning support for Lujan Grisham’s order is concerning, as it appears he is more interested in appeasing the Governor than in protecting the rights and safety of Albuquerque residents. It’s disappointing to see a law enforcement leader so easily swayed by political agendas.
Overall, it’s clear that some law enforcement agencies are willing to stand up for the Constitution and the rights of their constituents, while others are more focused on blindly following orders. It’s essential for conservatives to support and encourage officials like Sheriff Allen who prioritize the principles that define our nation, even in the face of pressure from liberal politicians.
