New York Times Falls for Weak Epstein “Bombshell” Against Trump

The New York Times wandered into the Epstein swamp this week acting as if it had unearthed a smoking gun, but anyone paying attention knows the “bombshell” is nothing more than reheated gossip dressed up as journalism. Veteran commentators from both the right and the anti-establishment left have already called out the story as recycled innuendo and not the kind of concrete evidence that should be used to try to destroy a man’s reputation.

What actually happened is plain: House Democrats released a long-ago birthday scrapbook compiled for Jeffrey Epstein’s 50th birthday that contains a crude, bawdy note and a novelty check attributed to “DJ Trump,” and that material was reported earlier by outlets like the Wall Street Journal. The scrapbook includes messages from many people in elite circles, but a smirking picture and a jokey note are not the same as proof of a criminal enterprise.

President Trump and his team have denied the authenticity of the note and have responded as anyone falsely accused would — with outrage and litigation. The White House invited forensic analysis and Trump has moved to sue the outlets pushing the story, calling the material a hoax and vowing to clear his name in court rather than kneel to a cable-news mob.

Even the Times’ own reporting undercuts the idea that this is a new revelation; the paper ran examples of Trump’s correspondence from the late 1990s and early 2000s, which opponents say resemble the handwriting, but resemblance is not proof and context matters. Conservatives aren’t claiming Trump never socialized with lots of wealthy people — we’re saying social acquaintance and innuendo do not equal crimes or conspiracies, and the press should stop pretending they do.

If the press were serious about truth rather than headlines, they’d be equally interested in the many other names in Epstein’s circle — including figures from both parties — instead of weaponizing one image to lob at a political opponent. The same scrapbook contains greetings and notes from prominent Democrats and establishment figures, which raises the obvious question: why is the media playing selective prosecutor instead of demanding full transparency for everyone implicated?

The real solution is transparency, not theatrical outrage: release the grand jury materials, let independent experts examine the documents, and stop using illicit innuendo as a cudgel in electoral politics. President Trump and allies have pushed for unsealing more Epstein files and transcripts; if the left truly cared about justice, they would support that move rather than weaponize leaks and scraps to wreck reputations.

Patriots should not be fooled by the Times’ showboating. Demand actual evidence, insist on equal treatment under the law, and hold the legacy media accountable for turning rumor into headline-driven character assassination. The country deserves journalism that seeks facts, not a partisan campaign of recycled smears dressed up as a “bombshell.”
