On Monday, chaos erupted as two groups engaged in an “altercation” in Hollywood Beach, Florida. The situation escalated to the point where shots were fired, leaving a total of nine people injured, including innocent children. As of Tuesday, two suspects have been arrested, but three are still at large. Five handguns have been recovered from the scene.
But instead of focusing on the root causes of this tragic event, Governor Gavin Newsom of California spent his Memorial Day attacking Republican Governor Ron DeSantis of Florida. Newsom took to Twitter to criticize DeSantis for signing a constitutional carry bill into law, blaming the NRA and warning that the “senseless violence” caused by guns will continue.
DeSantis signed a permit-less carry bill in April that removes requirements for:

However, Newsom’s tweet was quickly shut down by Jeremy Redfern, who serves as DeSantis’ press secretary. Redfern pointed out that the bill hasn’t even gone into effect yet and won’t until July 1, 2023. So, Newsom’s criticism is baseless, to say the least.
Furthermore, Newsom’s obsession with gun control legislation ignores the fact that it has proven to be ineffective in reducing violent crime. Shootings still occur, as demonstrated by the tragic events in Hollywood Beach. Nevertheless, Newsom, Joe Biden, and other Democrats continue to attack the Second Amendment and push for stricter gun control laws.
Mike Miller, writing for RedState, also pointed out another crucial fact: the new law in Florida doesn’t change who is eligible to obtain a carry permit. Individuals who are 21 years or older who wish to obtain a concealed carry permit can still do so under the law.
It’s clear that Newsom’s criticism of DeSantis is just another example of partisan politics. The tweet was full of holes and nonsense before it was even posted. But Newsom didn’t stop there – he also took to Twitter to attack Florida and Texas with a political cartoon. Many pointed out the inappropriateness of such a tweet on Memorial Day.
It’s ironic that Newsom and California Democrats are touting their state as “free” when the population has decreased for the first time in years, while Florida and Texas are growing rapidly. However, California’s “freedom” comes with a price – criminals run wild due to Soros-backed DAs, there are no legal limits on abortion, and minors can permanently alter their bodies due to gender dysphoria.
At the end of the day, Newsom’s tweets do nothing to solve the issue of gun violence. It’s time to focus on actual solutions and not use tragic events for political gain.
