In a recent appearance on Fox News's "Hannity," Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) said he was ready to debate Gov. Gavin Newsom (D-CA). But it looks like the details of the debate are stuck because both governors are "stalling" over things like live audiences and places. Newsom has suggested that the conversation take place in places like Georgia, Nevada, and North Carolina. But, wait a minute! Because Georgia and North Carolina are said to be unfair to LGBTQ+ people, California law actually bans state travel there. What a bunch of liars! Even though they are on the list of places that can't be visited, Newsom has been to both of them. He even went all the way to Florida just to criticise DeSantis over and over again. And don't forget that he went to Montana to see his wife's family. How dare they!

In the meantime, Newsom's team and President Joe Biden's team have been working together to finish making plans for the debate. They said that the fight could happen on November 8 or 10. This would happen just a few months before the Iowa Caucus, where DeSantis is currently behind former President Trump. Recent studies show that on both a national and a state level, DeSantis is far behind Trump. DeSantis has also been making some big changes to his campaign, like adding a new campaign manager and changing how he deals with the media. Before the debate with Newsom, it's clear that he's trying to get more support and strengthen his position. Governor, you did well!

When it comes to wanting to be president, Newsom says he won't run for office in 2024. But, really, who are we trying to fool? People are starting to say that Biden might not even be the nominee again, so it wouldn't be strange if Newsom was getting ready to run. Maybe he wants a job in Biden's government or wants his blessing and backing for a future run for president. What will happen?
Even though these two leaders are arguing about their political futures, we shouldn't forget to look at how they have done in office so far. Under Newsom's terrible leadership, California's population dropped for the first time in its history. But he brushes it off quickly by saying that other states had the same problem. On the other hand, under DeSantis's smart leadership, Florida not only had a record number of visitors, but it was also the fastest-growing state in 2022, according to predictions from the Census Bureau. DeSantis even went to San Francisco and talked about the fall of the "once great city." In terms of getting things done, it's clear which governor has the upper hand.
So, as the debate and talks go on, let's hope that these governors can put their personal goals aside and focus on solving the real problems facing their states. Newsom may be trying to get away from his mistakes by focusing on a possible run for president, but the people of California deserve better. DeSantis, on the other hand, just needs to stay on track and keep doing what's best for the people of Florida. Governor, keep up the good work!
