Oh boy, buckle up folks because California just took another giant leap into the world of woke insanity. Democratic Governor Gavin Newsom has signed a new bill that requires retailers in the state to create gender-neutral toy sections for children. Yes, you read that correctly. Retailers now risk being fined hundreds of dollars if they don’t comply. It’s like they’re determined to turn everything into a political correctness nightmare.

Under this ridiculous law, any California-based department store with 500 or more employees that sells “childcare items or toys” must have a gender-neutral section, regardless of whether the items were traditionally marketed for either girls or boys. Seriously, can’t kids just play with whatever they want without the government getting involved?
And if retailers have the audacity to defy this nonsense, they’ll be hit with a $500 fine. Talk about government overreach! It’s outrageous that they would punish businesses for not jumping on the gender-neutral bandwagon.
But of course, we have the virtue-signaling Democrats to thank for this. Congressman Evan Low, a Democrat from California, supported the legislation, claiming that we need to stop stigmatizing what’s acceptable for certain genders. Spare us the sanctimonious lectures, Congressman. Kids should be able to play with whatever toys they like, without their options being dictated by some politically correct agenda.
Low even compared this bill to other equally absurd laws, like forcing companies to add women to their corporate boards and demanding employers release pay data to improve gender equity. Let’s be clear, gender-neutral toy sections have absolutely nothing to do with gender equity. It’s just another attempt to strip away the distinctions between boys and girls, which is the antithesis of modern thinking.
Now, I’m not saying that stores should force toys on kids based on their gender. In fact, stores like Target have already gone down that path, getting rid of boys and girls sections and opting for gender-neutral aisles. But here’s the thing, Target ended up spending $20 million to add private bathrooms to each store because they faced protests. That’s right, trying to please the woke mob comes with a hefty price tag.
And let’s not forget about Lego. They too have jumped on the inclusivity bandwagon, announcing that gender stereotypes would no longer limit their toys. Give me a break! Toys are meant to be fun and entertaining, not a battleground for social justice warriors.
So, here we are, witnessing California descend even further into woke madness. It’s a sad state of affairs when the government feels the need to dictate how retailers arrange their toy sections. Kids don’t need gender-neutral toys, they need freedom to be who they are and play with whatever makes them happy. It’s time to put an end to this excessive political correctness and let kids be kids.
